We are proud to offer the CUSCO USA Type-RS LSD for J-Series 12bolt and soon for 14bolt J-Series manual transmission differentials.
These do not fit J-series automatic transmissions.
12 bolt differentials are found in the following vehicle original transmissions:
1999-2002 Honda Accord 3.0 V6
2003-2007 Honda Accord 3.0 V6
2001-2003 Acura CL 3.2 Type-S V6
2004-2008 Acura TL 3.2 V6 / TL Type-S 3.5 V6
14 bolt differentials are found in the following vehicle original transmissions:
2009-2012 Honda Accord 3.5 V6
2013-2017 Honda Accord 3.5 V6
2009-2014 Acura TL 3.7 V6 (Unknown at this time if the CUSCO LSD will fit in the transmission housing)
How does a Cusco Type-RS LSD Work?
There are many components inside the LSD casing, but the effectiveness of the unit (locking rate) depends on how much pressure is applied as well as the contact surface area of the clutch plates. The effectiveness (locking rate) can be altered by several ways. Changing the cam angle of the pressure ring effectively works to change pressure and reaction time of locking. Also, changing the surface area of the clutch plates by its size or quantity to manage how much pressure is applied.
What is the difference between a 1 Way and 1.5 Way LSD?
1 Way: The LSD is effective when load is applied to the differential (applied throttle load), and is not effective when load is not applied. This is suitable for very high HP for Drag Racing in our FWD Honda V6 platforms.
1.5 Way: The LSD is effective when load is applied to the differential (applied throttle load), and is half-effective when load is not applied. This makes aggressive driving in turns and braking zones more confidence inspiring.
